After Anni Albers

Over the years I have collaborated on conceptual fiber art works as part of the craftivist art collective New Craft Artists in Action . Most recently, our work was featured in To The Hoop at the Weatherspoon Museum of Art at UNC Greensboro in North Carolina. This body of work, entitled BMC Allstars was inspired by the legacy of Black Mountain College.

The net taking shape

For this project, Maria Molteni and I collaborated on an Anni and Joseph Albers tribute basketball net and backboard. I created the net, inspired by Anni Albers’ Black White Yellow. Maria created the backboard, inspired by Joseph Albers’ Homage to a Square.

For the net, I hand wove individual panels using repurposed yarn and cord, then assembled them into a basketball net.
