Pattern Testing Opportunities

Hi There!

For my next pattern, I will be assembling a team of paid pattern testers. At the foundation of this new testing format will be a community where testers can exchange ideas and share progress with one another. In this new pattern testing format, I hope to make the process more equitable and accessible, as well as focus on better communication and organization!

How it works

I plan to create a large tester pool that I can draw from for each testing round, to accommodate testers' variable schedules and preferences. I am hoping to recruit testers of all ages, sizes, genders and abilities.

When a new pattern is ready to test, I’ll reach out to a diverse group of testers from the pool and assemble a team. Each round of testing will include approx. 6-8 people.

We will communicate using an online platform (TBD, but possibly Discord) so that I can share files and send updates while testers can ask questions, share progress, and connect with one another.

Requirements

To participate in a testing round you will have to be able to commit to a specific timeline, typically between 2-3 weeks. I am generally flexible +/- a week and I'm happy to work within folks' schedules as best as I can. Testers would be able to opt out of a testing round when life is busy and have the opportunity to participate next time around (hence the tester 'pool'). However, unfinished/stalled out projects without communication is a deal breaker for me. If you don't think you can reliably complete testing projects that you commit to, this gig is not be for you.

While your sewing skills do not have to be advanced, you need to be committed to cutting and sewing as accurately as possible (for you), following the pattern instructions as written. You're welcome to make alterations/modifications after the initial fitting review.

Compensation

In an effort to be more equitable, I will be paying pattern testers for their time. For this new pattern testing program, I’ll be piloting sliding scale compensation.

As an example of pay scale, for the next testing round, compensation will range from $25-75. Folks who have more free time and income can choose the $25 stipend for fabric and notions and folks who can benefit from more income will receive $25 fabric funds plus an extra $25-50 for their labor. Testers can self select their rate, no questions asked. They can also change their preferred rate in future testing rounds.
