Have you ever wanted to make your own jeans?

This class will walk you though all of the steps needed – from cutting your fabric properly to sewing a fly front and installing rivets. Though they can seem daunting, jeans are not hard to make – they just take time and patience! If you’ve been nervous about attempting jeans on your own, this class is a great opportunity to challenge yourself with the help of a teacher and the camaraderie of your fellow sewists!

We will be using the Ginger Jeans pattern by Closet Case Files (available at JP Knit & Stitch). This stretch jeans pattern can be made in either a high, mid or low rise style, with skinny, stovepipe, or flared legs. Check out the pinterest page to see some examples and get inspired.

*the flared leg and mid rise options are not included in the pattern, but can be achieved with a few alterations. Since these take time, students making this alterations may need to catch up by cutting some of their pieces out at home or by coming in early before the next class.

To the first class, please bring the following supplies:

The Ginger Jeans pattern

Your sewing kit – there are limited tools for sharing in the sewing room

Your pre washed fabric (choose fabric amount according to your size):

– Denim: The pattern calls for 7-12 oz denim or twill with 15-20% stretch (fabrics containing 2% lycra)

– 1/2 yd Cotton lining fabric (feel free to choose a cute print or use stash fabric…it’s lining!)

1/2 yard Fusible Interfacing

All purpose matching thread

Topstitching thread (look at some RTW jeans for color ideas. Gold or copper are standard, but feel free to get creative)

Denim sewing machine needles

A metal pants zipper

Rivets (optional)

All supplies are available at JP Knit & Stitch and students will receive a discount on supplies.

Please Note: While we will be able to make small fit alterations to your jeans while sewing, this class will focus on construction rather than fit. If you have questions or concerns about fitting, please contact the store and we will put you in touch with the teacher to discuss your options before class.
