See the bottom of this post for entry details!

When I started Blueprints and was developing the graphic design end of things, I wanted to keep it looking uniform and subtle but still allow each pattern to have its own individual character. For the first two patterns, I reached out to some friends of mine who created lovely illustrations to grace the covers. Now that printing Saltbox is on the horizon and I need a cover artist, I decided to try something different.

Many of you out there in social media land are not only sewists, but amazing artists too! I thought it would be fun to open up the process to all of you with a cover art contest!

Saltbox was first introduced last fall as part of Sewing Indie Month festivities and now it's time to turn it into a full fledged printed sewing pattern! I'm in the process of tidying up the pattern and instructions, as well as adding more sizes and making a few small fit adjustments. (If you have made Saltbox and have any feedback, fill out this survey and you'll be handsomely rewarded!)

In the mean time, I'm opening up to floor to you! If you're an artist or otherwise crafty person, try your hand at pattern illustration! As an artist myself, I'm beyond excited to see what sorts of awesome designs you come up with. Learn more about the contest details below!

Would you like to have a go at creating a cover design? Here's a bit more about how & what to enter:

  • The artwork must include a visual representation of both styles of the garment (Tee & Tank top). A back view is nice, but not required. These can be on their own or on figures.

  • A Saltbox house must also be represented somewhere in the pattern art, though it doesn't necessarily have to be a feature.

  • The art can be ANY medium(painting, drawing, collage, photography, embroidery, etc), but the final submission must be a digital file(JPG, TIFF, PNG or AI) in gray scale, at 300dpi. The size of the cover area is approximately 5.625" x 6", though the art can be larger if the ratio stays the same. Download a template of the cover here. (PDF and AI)

  • You can submit up to 5 entries or variations of the same design.

Version 1 - The Tee

Version 2 - The Tank

Email all cover art submissions to cover(at)blueprintsforsewing.com. All entries are due by July 1st.
